Jade
This will be run by Phil in an original world, detailed below.
Setting
The campaign is set in an area known as Jade. It is a luscious, green, farmland, about the size of the island of Newfoundland, on the southern edge of a large landmass. Several millennia ago, a dense fog cloud appeared and encircled this entire region. Extending even out to sea, the fog was noxious and people who ventured into it were never heard from again. Despite this, Jade was a fertile farmland, amplified by naturally occurring magic that caused crops to grow within weeks, and trees to go from sapling to adult in mere months. Between farming, fishery, lumber and some mining, Jade was relatively well-off and could continue to exist. Ore is very rare in Jade, and paper money is the main means of currency.
For hundreds of years, adventurers would set off into the fog, in the hopes of finding some trace of civilization. Having not heard from anyone, the people of Jade eventually gave up these foolish expeditions, and focused on their daily lives. Life in Jade is quiet and, for the most part, peaceful. Some people live in small villages or towns, but most live on the countless homesteads that can be found every few kilometers. There is very little strife and crime us somewhat uncommon.
Some of the challenges the players will face, initially, come from nature. The magic that enhances the crops sometimes plagues animals, causing them to grow large and rabid (dire, if you will). Fires are a huge issue in Jade; an unchecked fire can run rampant quite quickly and destroy most structures, as they are made entirely of wood. Bandits also roam the countryside, but are mostly concerned with pillaging ore shipments, for their tremendous value, both in trade, but also to craft weapons and tools. There are rumors of a bandit King, who has the means to survive in the Fog, but the Order of the Mistguard, an ancient order devoted to watching and documenting the fog, has dismissed them as children's tales.
