Abomination Vaults is a megadungeon campaign. What's a megadungeon? Simply put, it's just a very large dungeon. A megadungeon campaign is one that is centered around a megadungeon. That's not to say you'll never leave the dungeon, and never doing anything outside of it, but the dungeon is the primary focus of the campaign.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is a sandbox-style campaign. The players have a lot of freedom to determine how they want to progress in the dungeon, in terms of which rooms to explore, when to descend to the next level of the dungeon, when to return to town to rest, and which sidequests to take on. Downtime play will absolutely be a part of the campaign, and will mostly be left up to the players to decide when and how much downtime they want to take.&lt;br /&gt;

You might think that a megadungeon implies a hack and slash campaign, but this isn't necessarily true. While Abomination Vaults is a combat-heavy campaign (like most Paizo-published adventure paths), there is still a lot of room for exploration, roleplaying, and storytelling, particularly as you engage with the various monstrous factions that have claimed ownership of each level of the dungeon.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;For nearly a year, a half-orc by the name of Brekt has been in and around the area of Otari. That may not be unusual in and of itself but his large stature, enormous weapons and animal furs tend to make him stand out. Despite that, the people who have interacted with him at the pub or have hired him for a job have generally found him to be better than they expected in terms of behaviour, and demeanor. (“he’s less of savage than I would have thought!”)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Brekt is on a journey to hone his skills and test his mettle as a warrior. This is a common rite of passage in his Varisian tribe. He has a lot to live up to - a few years before he was born, Brekt’s father became known as a hero for leading the party that hunted down and killed a black dragon, which was a terror in Varisia.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A feeling that he can’t explain had drawn him to the Isle of Kortos. Now in Otari, Brekt has been working with a witch who lives near the swamp and, through her, has made some other acquaintances, including a local fixture in the community, Wrin. Some nights in the pub, after a few drinks, Brekt will speak about creatures he believes he has seen in the Fogfen but most in Otari do not seem overly concerned. He believes, possibly due to his heightened senses, that there are some particularly terrible creatures lurking there… he can’t be certain, but there may even be a black dragon…&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

When the mysterious lighthouse called Gauntlight glows with baleful light, the people of Otari know it’s an ominous prelude to sinister events. The town’s newest heroes must explore the ruins around the lighthouse and delve down into the dungeon levels beneath it. Hideous monsters, deadly traps, and vengeful ghosts all await the heroes who dare to enter the sprawling megadungeon called the Abomination Vaults! &lt;br /&gt;

==Campaign Description==&lt;br /&gt;
Abomination Vaults is a megadungeon campaign. What's a megadungeon? Simply put, it's just a very large dungeon. A megadungeon campaign is one that is centered around a megadungeon. That's not to say you'll never leave the dungeon, and never doing anything outside of it, but the dungeon is the primary focus of the campaign.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is a sandbox-style campaign. The players have a lot of freedom to determine how they want to progress in the dungeon, in terms of which rooms to explore, when to descend to the next level of the dungeon, when to return to town to rest, and which sidequests to take on. Downtime play will absolutely be a part of the campaign, and will mostly be left up to the players to decide when and how much downtime they want to take.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You might think that a megadungeon implies a hack and slash campaign, but this isn't necessarily true. While Abomination Vaults is a combat-heavy campaign (like most Paizo-published adventure paths), there is still a lot of room for exploration, roleplaying, and storytelling, particularly as you engage with the various monstrous factions that have claimed ownership of each level of the dungeon.&lt;br /&gt;

Kellah. A human hunter and warrior who is part of the Vellann tribe that used to avoid civilization, having occasional contact with Newhaven before the war. Much of the tribe has been killed by the goblins in the area who have become more numerous and organized in recent years. They have been driven away from the mountains which they called home. The Chief decided that the Vellann should try to make a home in New Cyre. The tribe generally has a good opinion of the Prince and believe he is a good man.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Kellah is unfamiliar with magic, technology and many of the customs of of the people in New Cyre. As a strong warrior, he wants to protect his tribe and make sure they are able to live peacefully in New Cyre. But he is also a hunter and has a thirst for adventuring and competition. He likes to challenge himself and is proud of strength and prowess in combat, hunting and tracking.&lt;br /&gt;

His grandmother, Jerrah, is the voice of wisdom to the tribe and even to the chief. But, especially Kellah, as he takes her words and guidance very seriously.&lt;br /&gt;

The characters are in the town of Lockston, on the North East coast of the nation of Thelland.  About town each character finds notices from Captain Damien Price, requesting the aid of brave heroes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Upon meeting with Captain Price, the characters are informed that a large group of goblins have been seen in the hills South of Lockston.  The town guard is busy keeping order in the docks due to the busy shipping season, and so the Captain is looking for volunteers to scout out the goblin encampment.  All the characters agree to volunteer.  Before leaving town, the characters do brief introductions, having never met before, with the exception of Imen and Garrett.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Journeying South for two days, the party has a number of encounters with animals, and Garret's druidic skills are proven to be quite valuable in negotiating with them.  Nearing the goblin encampment, our heroes encounter a scouting party of three goblins.  The fighting is fierce, and while the party proves victorious, Imen falls to the goblin blades.  He is buried on a hill nearby.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party reaches the goblin encampment, and learns that there are a great many goblins, somewhere between one and two hundred.  Garrett scouts the camp alone, and discovers that the leader's tent is by itself on a nearby rise.  Later that night, the party dispatches a goblin patrol and Garrett sneaks into the camp again.  Bypassing a single guard, he creeps into the tent, and steals a document written in Goblin, and learns something of their plans from a crudely drawn map.  He also grabs a bag of gems, a potion, and some magic dust.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The party flees with their loot, back to Lockston, ahead of the goblin horde.  Upon reaching town, they alert Captain Price to the danger, and give him the goblin document so that he may find someone to translate it.  Captain Price says that he will have to pull the town guard from their current duties to fend off the goblins, but that warned of the threat, they shouldn't prove to be too great a danger to the town.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

Ardoron was a member of the [[Welcome to Urph#Tragadine|Tragadine]] army and was killed during the Orc/Ogre attack. He was among the defenses that remained while Aramil ran the training exercises. Triton would have followed in his father's footsteps but wanted nothing to do with the military now that the orcs/ogres are in charge. Jalainya was away from Tragadine in the Holy Lands during the attack and Triton has not seen her since.&lt;br /&gt;
